  • Kid's Gongfu: Review month

This month we will have our annual collection of items to donate to the Utah Food Bank. The bin will be located in the lobby. Friends, family & students - if you have any food or items to donate, please consider contributing every night that class is open.

December is a very short month due to the holidays with most of the students traveling and everyone spending time with family and/or on vacation. We also have exciting things we'll have in January to kickoff the New Year of 2025. Stay tuned for our newsletter in late December to get everyone ready and pumped for upcoming challenges! We've also been requested again by the Utah Jazz to perform at their Chinese New Year game on Monday, January 27th, so save the date.

Also plan on no classes on New Years Day, January 1, 2025.

Feeling antsy between classes? Remember we have a missed class video online in the school app where you can follow along for a virtual class or our Taiji app - Tai Chi Trainer XR (only available on Apple App store at the moment.)

Embodying the Spirit of Giving: Lessons from the Holidays and Martial Arts

As the holidays approach, we are reminded of the deeper meaning behind this special season—a time to embody kindness, gratitude, and selflessness. These values are not just hallmarks of the holidays but are also deeply ingrained in the teachings of Chinese martial arts.

In our practice, we learn that true strength is not measured by what we can take, but by what we can give. Whether it's helping a fellow student perfect their form, cheering on a sparring partner for landing a hit, offering encouragement during a challenging moment in a tournament or testing, or simply showing respect towards the school and our culture, martial arts teaches us to think beyond ourselves.

While martial arts have their roots in self-defense and combat, they embody much more than brute strength or ferocity. True practitioners embrace the yin and yang of martial arts—balancing the toughness required to overcome challenges with the softness that nurtures our humanity. We strive to be scholars of discipline and character, mastering our own bodies and growing not only as skilled fighters but as compassionate and well-rounded individuals.

This holiday season, let’s carry that same mindset into our daily lives. Consider how you can make a difference for someone else—a kind word, a small gesture, or even donating time or resources to those in need. Just as martial arts require discipline and intention, so too does fostering a spirit of generosity and connection with others. When we act with gratitude and compassion, we create ripples that extend far beyond ourselves, touching lives in ways we may never fully see.

As you celebrate with loved ones, take a moment to reflect on how you can continue to live these values throughout the year. In giving, we discover the heart of our practice, and in thinking of others, we find the true essence of the season. From our martial arts family to yours, we wish you a holiday filled with warmth, joy, and the enduring spirit of community.

HOUSEKEEPING ITEMS

  • Please hurry to change & save all post-class chatting to the lobby or outside - the locker room gets very crowded (especially with Kids + Adv Classes) and either students need to leave before the next class comes in and/or before we close up shop after the last class of the night.

  • If you've been with our school at least a month and still haven't ordered a uniform yet, let us know! This is mandatory for all students, INCLUDING TAI CHI STUDENTS, who've been with us at least a month. Please respond to your emails ASAP and use the ordering link HERE.
