Hello students & parents,
Here are details for January 2025. Don't hold your breath - there is a lot to go over.
Happy Birthday to Adam this month! Also, congrats to Kate for 2-years and Li Jie for 4-years anniversary!
For this month, all gongfu classes are all-hands-on-deck for practices and performances to prepare for lion dance season. Here are the focuses this month:
Morning Taiji: Taiji Jian (Full routine continued)
Evening Taiji: Taiji 28 (New)
Beginner Gongfu: Lion dancing
Kid's Gongfu: Lion dancing
Advanced Gongfu: Lion dancing
SPECIAL NOTE: The Utah Jazz performance is All-Hands-On-Deck event. All gongfu students, adult and kids, trained in lion dancing will need to come to the event on that Monday night, January 27, at the Delta Center. Only extenuating circumstances will be allowed to skip this event, such as work, school, prior scheduled events, etc. This is an incredible honor for us, and all students need to help represent the school (automatic sash points for those who haven't achieved that bonus yet). For Advanced students, you're switching your Tue night for a Monday night to come, and Beginners skip class to go to the Jazz event.
Here's also what's happening:
"Return of the Dragon" 90-day program: Looking to return to the school to jump-start your 2025 goals? Here's your tool to help you achieve goals, give you direction and get you back into becoming the martial artist you want to be. If you haven't received an email from us, let us know for details.
New 2025 Running Virtual Challenges! Take on this NY Resolution and choose either running on Pacer Challengers or the Conqueror Challenges! For those new to virtual races, after your purchase you get an app on your phone that tracks your performance, giving you information of your virtual location along the way and ultimately rewarding you an incredible medal.
Pacer Virtual Challenges has the Chengdu, Beijing and Silk Road Challenges
Shifu will personally be doing the Silk Road challenge on this one, so join the fun if you're ambitious
The Conqueror Challenges has Beijing, The Great Wall and the Silk Road Challenges as well
New kids' sparring classes: This is way overdue & now we're going to return to our martial art roots rather than just only focus on forms - kids will now be learning how to spar! Parents will need to sign additional liability waivers and purchase sparring gear. Additional information will be provided later in January and will start in February or March at the latest.
New printed training workbooks for all Taiji & Gongfu classes! These will be available for $5-10 purchase first training week of January.

Shed the Old, Embrace the New - Official School Slogan
As we enter the Year of the Snake, we draw inspiration from its qualities: wisdom, transformation, adaptability, and resilience. Just like the snake sheds its old skin to renew itself, we invite our students to do the same as we face new challenges and grow together.
Wisdom: This year, we will expand our curriculum, use more Mandarin, and explore deeper martial arts philosophy.
Transformation: We’ll refine our programs and teaching methods to help you excel.
Adaptability: Life’s challenges are inevitable. We’ll teach you skills that help you flow through life and conquer obstacles.
Resilience: We’ll build mental toughness to persevere through challenges, on and off the mat.
What the Year of the Snake calls for:
Set Personal Goals: What do you want to achieve? Let’s make it happen! Goals sheet included in your new handbook
Embrace Challenges: Every obstacle conquered strengthens you. Take on a new challenge or tournament.
Commit to Growth: Attend classes each time, practice, and engage with our community to transform your martial arts journey.

HOUSEKEEPING ITEMS
If it wasn't obvious already, if you haven't washed your uniform for awhile, please be sure to take it home every now and then to clean it, especially if it's not being dried correctly after class. For all students, feel free to use the clothing rack in the closet to hold your top uniform to dry out instead of shoving it into your locker.
